Rs 1800 crore allocated to states under NFSM

The Centre has allocated 1800 crore rupees to states under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) this year. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Uttar Pradesh recieved 277 crore rupees which is the maximum allocation under the mission, followed by Madhya Pradesh which got about 227 crores and Maharashtra which got 196 crores.

NFSM was implemented in the eleventh Five Year Plan with an aim to raise food grain production upto 25 million tones which included 10 million tones of rice and 8 million tones of wheat. The target has been exceeded now. In the 12th Plan, starting this year, the NFSM would also focus on increasing the production of coarse cereals and food crops. Technology packages that suit local soil and climate conditions would be provided to farmers besides incentives to adopt better inputs, said the release.
