Rs 17, 986 cr disbursed to farmers during lockdown; Country has surplus foodgrain production: Narendra Singh Tomar

<span style="color: #222222;">Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today said the country's farm sector is functioning smoothly despite COVID-19 lockdown and there will not be much impact on its growth in the current fiscal.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Briefing media in New Delhi, Mr Tomar said that in the current lockdown situation, the agriculture sector is functioning smoothly as there has been no shortage of foodgrains, milk and vegetables and dairy. He said, agriculture GDP was at 3.7 per cent during  2019-20. He expressed confidence  that this growth in future will not be impacted much. <br />''<br />''He said, the county has surplus foodgrain production in the country. He said, Narendra Modi led government has always accorded  priority to  the growth of agriculture sector. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He informed that since the inception PM KISAN last years,  around 71 thousand crore rupees have been transferred into the bank accounts of eligible farmers so far .  He said, during the lockdown period, 17 thousand 986 crore rupees were disbursed to the farmers.He said, there is no dearth of food grain and milk and vegetables are also available in the lockdown period.  <br />''<br />''Mr Tomar said, 57.07 lakh hectare area has been brought under sowing of  summer crops against 41.37 hectare registering an increase of 38 per cent. The Minister said, this year too the country will achieve the more than the target set for food grain production as the monsoon is expected to be normal.<br />'' <br />'' Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand said, as per the estimate, this year agriculture sector  will see a growth rate of 3 per cent despite all prevailing adverse circumstances. He said,in the light of adverse effect on industrial activities during lock down period, there are activities in agriculture sector. <br />''<br />''He said,  it is estimated that the sector agriculture alone will give over 0.5 per cent growth to the overall economy of the country. He said, the share of agriculture sector in the economy is 17 per cent which higher than the manufacturing. Mr Chand expressed hope that the agriculture sector will rise to the occasion and play an important role in giving normal growth to Indian economy.</span><br />
