Rs 120 cr to fortify police stations in Naxalism-hit areas

The Centre has sanctioned 120 crore rupees to fortify 400 police stations located in Naxal affected areas across the country. According to official sources the first installment of 30 lakh rupees each will be utilized for construction of new buildings, residential complex, bunkers and to procure arms and communication equipment.

Home Ministry has decided to fortify all the 400 police stations situated in these districts at a cost of two crore rupees each. The Central government will provide 1 crore 60 lakh rupees while the remaining 40 lakh rupees will be paid by the state governments.

AIR correspondent adds that naxal violence has been reported in areas falling under 270 police stations in 64 districts in eight states. Upto August this year, there has been around 850 incidents resulting in around 300 deaths.
