Government today sanctioned an ex-Gratia assistance of one and a half lakh rupees to Nasar Ali Syed, a former Chess player who is living in indigent conditions. Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports, Dr. M.S. Gill has provided the assistance from the National Welfare Fund for Sports persons. Under this funding scheme, the Sports Ministry provides lump sum financial assistance to outstanding sports persons of the past, who are facing financial distress. Nasar Ali Syed had played Chess at National and International level during 1967 to 1969.
