In the World Cup Football, Portugal, Spain and Chile joined Brazil on Friday in the Round of Sixteen. In their last Group G fixture in Johannesburg, Portugal and Brazil played out an unsavoury goalless draw. The match, one of the most eagerly awaited of the first round, was a huge disappointment with neither side prepared to take risks and was marred by petulant behaviour. Seven yellow cards were dished out in the first half.Brazil who had already reached the Second Round finished top of the Group with seven points. Portugal took the second place with five. Ivory Coast stood third in the group standings after defeating North Korea convincingly 3-0 in Nelspruit. Ivory Coast became the fifth of six African nations at the tournament to be eliminated. North Korea ended their campaign without a point.In the Group H match at Pretoria, David Villa and Andres Iniesta scored a goal each to help Spain beat 10-man Chile 2-1. Both teams qualified with six points each. The scorer for Chile was substitute Rodrigo Millar. Spain topped the standings on better goal difference. At Bloemfontein, Switzerland and Honduras played a goalless draw with chances missed at both ends. Both the teams were eliminated. Switzerland ended third in the group with four points, while Honduras finished with one point.The Round of Sixteen matches of the World Cup begins today. In the first encounter in Port Elizabeth, Uruguay will face South Korea at 1930 hours. In the second match at Midnight, the United States will meet Ghana, who carry the hopes of Africa.
