President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday conferred Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the country's highest sporting honour, on the ace shooter Ronjon Sodhi. It was for the third consecutive year that the Khel Ratna Award went to a shooter. Cricketer Virat Kohli was another attraction at the national sports awards ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday evening. Arjuna awards were given to 15 sports persons including Virat Kohli for cricket, Kavita Chahal, for boxing, Gaganjit Bhullar for Golf, Saba Anjum, for hockey, Rajkumari Rathore, for shooting, PV Sindhu, for badminton and Neha Rathi, for wrestling. Rising badminton player PV Sindhu, the first Indian shuttler to clinch a bronze medal at the world championships could not be present at the function personally to receive the award. A total of 5 coaches were honoured with Dronacharya awards. KP Thomas was honoured with the Award for their life time contribution to coaching in Athletics and Raj Singh in Wrestling.Apart from a medal and citation, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee will receive a cash prize of 7.5 lakh rupees while Arjuna, Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand Awardees will receive statuettes, citations and cash prize of 5 lakh rupees each. Four persons and organisations, including UK Mishra of National Sports Academy Allahabad got Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar.
