Rome's new mayor, Virginia Raggi, said today that she would not support a bid to stage the 2024 Olympics in the Italian capital. Raggi told reporters in Rome that the games would bury the city under huge debts and piles of cement and it would be irresponsible for them to support this candidacy. The Italian government supports the bid, but needs the backing of the city council to press ahead. Raggi's decision means only Paris, Los Angeles and Budapest are left in the running to stage the 2024 sporting extravaganza.
