Role of minority groups in nation building has been phenomenal: Vice President

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today said the role of minority groups in nation building has been phenomenal. <br/><br/>Delivering 10th lecture of National Commission for Minorities in New Delhi, Mr Naidu said minorities have contributed to the nation-building because they gave predominance to their identity as Indians first irrespective of caste, creed, region, religion and language. He said, people are constantly building India on four important pillars Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity given by the Constitution. <br/><br/>Mr Naidu said, India and its people recognize that as a nation, the notion of pluralism, inclusion and peaceful co-existence have to be the cornerstones of the governance. <br/><br/>He said, secularism in India is safe not merely because of the Constitution but because it is in the DNA of the people. <br/><br/>Mr Naidu said equal opportunity for all to learn, earn and grow into active citizens is crucial as India must grow into a learning society as well. He said, people must introspect and identify divisive, destructive, demeaning tendencies and aberrations. <br/><br/>He said, development with dignity must be the agenda of the nation. He added that development is possible not only by passing Bill, but also there is need of political will and administrative skill. <br/><br/>He said, people must channel the rich human resources to productive ends, towards nation building. <br/><br/>The Vice President said, in politics, people must consider politicians to have Character, Calibre, Capacity and Conduct and avoid Community, Caste and Cash. Speaking on terrorism, Mr Naidu said, terror has no religion and anybody who is taking the path of terror is not human. He said, terrorism in any form is not acceptable.
