Robert Blakes arrives in Colombo on two day visit

The US assistant secretary of state for South Asia, Robert Blake is to arrive in Colombo on Tuesday for a two day visit. AIR Correspondent reports that the visit assumes much significance in the light of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee bipartisan study Report recommending policy shift and less confrontational approach towards its relations with Sri Lanka. Blake, formerly the ambassador to Colombo, is scheduled to meet with government officials, political leaders and important members of the civil society. He is one of the highest ranking US official to visit the island nation after the end of the three decade long guerilla war. Blake's visit follows close on the heels of the decision of the Sri Lankan Government to open the camps and allow freedom of movement where hundreds of war displaced Tamil civilians are still living.
