In Afghanistan, eight people were killed when a roadside bomb struck a vehicle in eastern province of Nangarhar on Friday. A provincial government spokesman said that the vehicle was travelling through the Khwarano area of Khogyani district, which shares a long porous border with Pakistan. The spokesman said one woman was among those killed. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but Taliban militants frequently plant explosives along main roads to target Western and Afghan forces. Such attacks have claimed lives of hundreds of civilians this year. Taliban has threatened to intensify their attacks before the second round of elections scheduled for next Saturday.
