Road, rail, air traffic resumes in Mumbai after rain lashes city

The monsoon made its presence felt in Mumbai as heavy rain lashed the city yesterday. There were traffic disruptions and the city's four main electricity supply lines collapsed after a heavy spell of shower leaving half of the city in darkness last night for sometime. Due to disruptions in electricity supply Mumbai's life line Central railway network was thrown out of gear leaving thousands of commuters stranded yesterday night. According to railway sources, train services were were delayed by 15 – 20 minutes last night. Instances of water logging and uprooted trees were also reported in the city. Air traffic was also disrupted due to heavy rains. Airport authoirities informed AIR that eight incoming domestic flights were diverted to different airports from the Mumbai International Airport last evening due to strong tail wind and poor visibility. Operations were stalled at both runways of the airport between 7:55-8:30 pm. Normal operations resumed at 8:32 pm. Meanwhile, now road and rail traffic is running normally.
