Rly Minister flags off maiden broad-gauge train service between Agartala and Delhi

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today flagged off maiden broad-gauge train service between Agartala and Delhi and unveiled foundation stone for Agartala-Akhaura international rail Project. The 'Tripura Sundari Express' will run weekly between Agartala and Anand Vihar in Delhi. It will have commercial stoppages at 16 stations and cover a distance of 2461 kms in 46 hours and 50 minutes. <br/><br/>On this occasion, he said, Railway's initiatives for better connectivity of the region will result in all around development in North East region. He said more actions are to be taken by the ministry to improve the facilities of the Railway and efforts are being made to modernize it. Mr Prabhu said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision in action has resulted this train. He said, Mr Modi has provided a vision for the development of North Eastern states and Indian Railway has taken a holistic approach towards this. <br/><br/>Mr Prabhu said, Modi Govt's vision is to make the region one of the highest per capita income-rich-area in the country. He said, due to connectivity more employment and income will be generated in the North East. Further, he added, IRCTC would be advised to explore possibility of developing tourist packages for North East & Bangladesh for wider connectivity of the region. He further said, during the rule of Modi Govt, the railway budget has been increased every year and in the next year the budget will be more than 7000 crore rupees for the region.<br/> <br/>Railway Minister also said, keping in view of the aspirations of the people of the state, a train service between Agartala and Kolkata will be started next month. He assured that more passenger services from Agartala would be introduced in a phased manner. <br/>In the context of the prevailing fuel crisis in Tripura, the Railway Minister said, Trains carrying fuel like the ones carrying water to Latur years back, are on the anvil that will help the state tide over the present crisis in coming days.
