In the by-election of the 18 Assembly seats in the four states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Karnataka, RJD and JD(U) and Congress have gained seats while BJP has performed poorly.
In Bihar, out the ten seats that went to the polls, RJD, JD(U) and Congress combined have won four seats and leading in three others while BJP has won two seats and leading in one seat.
RJD has won Mohiuddinagar, Chhapra, Banka and Rajnagar seats and BJP has won Narkatiyaganj seat. In the 2010 Assemble elections, BJP had won six, RJD three and JD(U) one seat.
In Karnataka, the Congress has won two seats while the BJP got one seat. The ruling Congress has wrested the Bellary Rural seat from BJP.
Congress' N Y Gopalakrishna trounced BJP's Obalesh by an impressive margin of over 33,000 votes in Bellary Rural. The Congress also retained the Chikkodi Sadalaga seat.
Congress candidate Ganesh Hukkeri won the seat by a margin of 31,820 votes defeating BJP's Mahantesh Kavatagi of the BJP. BJP candidate B Y Raghavendra retained the Shikkaripura seat by 6413 votes over his Congress rival Shantaveerappa Gowda.
In Punjab, Congress candidate Perneet Kaur has been declared winner in Patiala with a margin of 23282 votes. She defeated his nearest rival, ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP candidate Bhagwan Dass Juneja.
Aam Admi party candidate Harjit Singh Adaltiwala has lost his security deposit. This seat was declared vacant after Captain Amrinder Singh’s resignation from Vidhan Sabha as he was elected for Lok Sabha from Amritsar.
The another seat, in Talwandi sabo, Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh has been declared winner with a margin of 46642 votes. He has defeated his nearest rival Congress candidate Harminder Singh Jassi.
This seat was declared vacant after Jeet Mohinder Singh resigned from Vidhan Sabha after joining Shiromani Akali Dal.
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP has retained the Agar Assembly seat by a margin of 27,102 votes with its candidate Gopal Parmar defeating Congress' Rajkumar Gore.
Meanwhile, Congress which is striving hard to revive its fortunes in the state after remaining out of power since 2003, received some good news from Bahoriband seat in Katni district where its candidate Sourabh Singh is leading by a margin of 1,750 votes.
In Vijaraghavgarh seat, BJP's Sanjay Pathak is leading by a margin of 17 thousand votes against Congress' Brajendra Mishra.
