Heavy rain in the past few days has increased the water level of almost all the major rivers of Manipur. Imphal, Iril, Thoubal and Nambul Rivers are flowing at danger level.Many low lying areas, including paddy fields, have been submerged and several hectares of standing crops damaged. Many fish farms have also been washed away. Worst affected areas are in Thoubal District, Imphal West District, and Bishnupur Districts. The water level of Loktak lake, the largest fresh water lake in the North- East is also on the rise affecting nearby paddy fields and fish farms.Among the hill districts of Manipur, several hectares of paddy and maize growing fields are submerged by flash flood in Chakpi River near the Chandel District Headquarters.
