Rio Olympics: Michael Phelps wins 22nd Olympic gold in 200 individual medley

American Swimmer Michael Phelps bagged his 22nd Olympic Gold today when he won the 200 metres medley event at the Olympics Aquatic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The win gave Phelps his 13th individual gold medal, an Olympic record that burnishes his title as the world's most decorated Olympian. The Gold was Phelps' fourth of the Rio Games. He had, earlier, won the 4X200 metres freestyle relay, 200 metres Butterfly and 4X100 metres Freestyle Relay.Simone Manuel also created history for the US as she set a new Olympic record in the 100 metres freestyle and became the first African-American woman to win an individual swimming gold.American Ryan Murphy won his second Gold of the Games Olympics by finishing at the top of the podium in 200-metres backstroke event.United States, now, has 16 Gold, 12 Silver and 10 Bronze in its kitty and is at the top of the medals tally. China is second with 11 Gold, 8 Silver and 11 Bronze, while Japan is third with 7 Gold, 2 Silver and 13 Bronze. India is yet to win a medal.Athletics, one of the most prestigious events of the Olympics is also beginning today. While the preliminaries heats of Women's 100 metres will be held today, several Indians will be seen in action in a number of events. Discus Thrower Vikas Gowda, Shot Puter Manpreet Kaur and Long Jumper Ankit Sharma will figure in the field events, with Jinson Johnson trying his luck in 800 metres race, Muhammad Anas in 400 metres race and Gurmeet Singh, Manish Singh and Krishnan Ganapathi in 20 km walk. In Shooting, Gagan Narang and Chain Singh will be vying for top honours in 50-metres Rifle Prone event. Mairaj Ahmad Khan in Skeet and Gurpreet Singh in 25-metre Rapid Fire Pistol category will also be seen in action. Archer Atanu Das will play his pre-quarterfinal match of Individual Recurve event against Korea's Lee Seung-yun. In Tennis, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna will be eying for a Mixed Doubles semi-final berth when they take on the British team of Andy Murray and Heather Watson. In Boxing, Vikas Krishan will play his pre-quarterfinal bout against Onder Sipal of Turkey in the 75 kg category. The Indian Men's Hockey team, which has already made it to the quarterfinals, will play its final group game against Canada. Golfers Anirban Lahiri and Shiv Chawrasia will be seen in action in the Round-2 of Individual event, with rower Dattu Bhokanal figuring in Men's Single Sculls semi-finals. Bhokanal is already out of the medal contention.
