On day four of Rio Olympics, India is placed slightly better than previous days as Men's Hockey team registered win over Argentina, pugilist Vikas Krishan advanced to next round and Atanu Das in archery also advanced to the pre-quarters. In Hockey, Indian Men's team showed a gritty performance as they defeated Argentina 2-1, to register their 2nd victory in third outing. Indian team took control of the game from first quarter as they scored the first goal via penalty corner in 8th minute by Chinglensana Kangujam. The second quarter remained goalless and India went into half time with 1-Nil advantage. In the third quarter, India's Kothajit Singh fiddled with a loose ball and penetrated Argentine defense to score the first field goal of India in the tournament. With a strong start Indian lead 2-Nil till the end of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, thanks to a good defensive work, India survived the onslaught from Argentina, though Gonzalo Peillat scored in 49th minute to reduce the lead but India finished 2-1.India's Boxing contingent began its campaign on a positive note. Vikas Krishan beat American Charles Albert Conwell in the 75 Kg weight class. Vikas defeated Charles Conwell by a unanimous decision, with judges giving him scores 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, in Round of 32. Vikas is in the same category where Vijender Singh won an Olympic bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics.Manoj Kumar in 64 kg and Shiva Thapa in 56 kg are other Indian pugilists who will feature this week. In Archery men's singles recurve event, India's Atanu Das advanced to round of 16 after two solid performances. Starting in round of 64, Atanu first blanked his Nepalese opponent Jitbahadur Muktan 6-Nil to reach round of 32. In that stage, Atanu defeated Cuba's Adrian Perez 6-4 in a thrilling contest. Atanu will now feature in round of 16 on Friday where he will meet Lee Seung-yun, a South Korean opponent who has been part of the Gold winnig team event in this Olympics.In Rowing, Dattu Bhokanal crashed out of medal contention in the men's single sculls event after finishing with a time of 6 minute 59.89 seconds which was six seconds poorer than the third placed Natan of Poland. The result means Bhokanal moves on to the semifinal C/D where he will compete for the rankings but won't be moving to semifinal A/B where he would have a chance to win a medal.Biggest disappointment of the day came from shooting range as Heena Sidhu crashed out in the qualifications of Women's 25m pistol event. In the first segment of qualification, the precision round, Sidhu finished on lowly 30th position. In the second segment, the rapid round, Sidhu stood at 20th position. Only top 8, after overall ranking advance to the semi-finals hence Sidhu missed it by a big margin.
