Rio 2016: Shuttler PV Sindhu enters Women's Singles final

PV Sindhu has scripted history by becoming the first Indian Badminton player to enter the Final at the Olympics and assure at least a Silver medal for the country in the sport. In a high voltage semi-final last evening, world number 10 Sindhu registered a scintillating 21-19, 21-10 victory over higher placed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan to seal a place in the Rio Games Gold medal match. Sindhu will take on world number one Carolina Marin of Spain in the final. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM Indian Time today. Marin defeated 2012 London Olympics Gold medalist Xuerui Li of China, 21-14, 21-16 in the other semi-final.Saina Nehwal was the first Indian shuttler to win an Olympic medal. She had claimed the Bronze in the London Games. However, this time around, she bowed out in the group stage.In Golf, teen Indian sensation Aditi Ashok has raised hopes of an Olympic medal. She stood just three strokes off the pace at tied 7th after the second round of the Women's Individual event.In Athletics, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt will be looking to retain his 200 metres Gold when he figures in the Final of the event in a few hours from now. Bolt, who won the Rio 100 metres Gold, is eying an unprecedented treble treble. He had won the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4×100 metres races in the last two Olympics.United States continues to lead the medals tally with 32 Gold, 32 Silver and 31 Bronze. Great Britain is second with 21 Gold, 21 Silver and 13 Bronze. China is third, having in its kitty, 20 Gold, 16 Silver and 22 Bronze medals. India is joint 70th with one Bronze.
