BlackBerry makers Research in Motion (RIM) have agreed for lawful access to its services by India's security agencies. According to an official release, the RIM, a Canada based company, has given certain proposals in this regard which will be operationalized immediately. It was also decided that the Department of Telecommunication would study the feasibility of all such services being provided through the server in India. At a meeting convened by the Home Secretary, Mr. G. K. Pillai with the representatives of the security agencies and Telecom department, it was decided that the government will review BlackBerry security issues within 60 days, by which time the DoT is expected to submit its report. Earlier, the government had given RIM deadline till tomorrow to come up with a solution to share the encrypted data or close shop. The government move had come in the wake of concerns over the misuse of BlackBerry's heavily encrypted services by the militants. AIR correspondent says that there are nearly one million BlackBerry subscribers in India and 41 million worldwide.
