Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today termed gender bias and inequality as a grave problem. Addressing South Asia Women's conference in New Delhi, Mr Rijiju said, crime against women is alarming and there is need for tightening the legal provision. Observing that crime against women is a deep rooted social problem, the Minister said, a country cannot claim to progress where women are not safe in the society.<br/><br/>Mentioning that India is a signatory to various regional and global conventions on Women's Equality, Mr Rijiju said no country has such elaborate legal provisions as India on the issue of Women safety and equality. He said, India has a number of legal provisions for the protection of women, but the problem still lies in the mindset of society.
