Rich tributes were paid to freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar to mark the centenary of his escape from British captivity today. <br/><br/>The patriot had escaped from a boat, 'SS Morea' , while being transported to India from Europe in 1910. Savarkar hailed from Nashik district in North Maharashtra. A special function was organised at his birth town, Bhagur, to mark the occasion.<br/><br/>
