The sowing area of rice for Kharif crop picked up to nearly 308 lakh hectare so far. It was over 264 lack hectare during the last week. Total kharif area of sowing still below over 58 lakh hectare from last year of 942 lakh hectare. The sowing area of rice reported higher in the state of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. According to data released by Agriculture Ministry, the area under Total Coarse Cereals is 158 lakh hectare against 182 lakh hectare during the corresponding period of last year. In sugarcane, the total coverage is around 53 lakh hectare as against nearly 51 lakh hectare. Higher area is reported in all sugarcane growing States except Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The total area under oilseed is over 161 lakh hectare against 167 lakh hectare over last year and thus lower area coverage around seven lakh hectare than the last year. In cotton, the total coverage is over 110 lakh hectare against nearly 117 lakh hectare during the corresponding period of last year. Higher area is reported in the State of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Mahrashtra and Odisha. Less area is mainly reported in the State of Gujarat, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
