Revised Land Acquisition Bill in coming session of Parl : Jairam

The Centre is to bring in revised Land Acquisition Bill in the coming session of Parliament. Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh said in Anand in Guajarat today that there is a political consensus on it. He said all political parties want to get the bill passed by Parliament.

Ramesh said states have already given their suggestions. He said he had also met opposition leaders like Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj and had discussion with them. There was an all-party meeting held in New Delhi four days ago to iron out the differences on the bill. Ramesh said,all political parties want the 1984 act to be changed.

He said land acquisition was done forcibly till now and farmers are not given adequate compensation but this bill will address these concerns.He said there have been cases where land acquired for public purposes has been used for building shopping malls or private housing societies. The Parliament session will resume on the 22nd of this mont.
