Revised direct tax codes draft to take all stakeholder concerns on board

The Finance Minister Mr. Mukherjee today said that all stakeholder concerns linked to the direct taxes code will be addressed in the revised draft, which will be released shortly. Speaking at the Annual Conference of Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income Tax in New Delhi he added that the Finance Ministry had come out with the first draft of the direct taxes code, which will replace the Income Tax Act, last year to seek public comments. The Finance Minister also announced that government will set up income tax overseas units in eight more countries, including the US and Britain, to help exchange tax-related information. Besides, Mukherjee asked IT officers to monitor high growth areas in the economy to track any kind of evasion. He urged to devise strategies to achieve the tax collection target for the current fiscal. Mr. Mukherjee reiterated that the economy is expected to grow at 8.5 percent this fiscal. The two day conference will deliberate ways to consolidate and refine these schemes to further improve taxpayer services. In order to make the tax administration more efficient and effective, the Conference will deliberate upon organizational changes including augmenting manpower and delegation of financial powers. AIR correspondent adds that unearthing black money is expected to be the focus of discussions as 50 individuals have already been served notice by the government.
