US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that its commitment for Afghanistan will endure long after U.S. combat troops have left, adding that it has learned the lessons of the past. Addressing a joint gathering of US and Afghan officials in state department on Tuesday night, Mrs. Clinton assured the visiting Afghan delegation led by President Hamid Karzai that a review of their Afghan policy has resulted in substantial increase in US commitment to Afghanistan. She asserted that security of the United States and Afghanistan is shared but more than that, their futures are shared. The remarks came as US President Barack Obama has set July next year for beginning of troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. Afghan President in his remarks said that both sides may be having disagreements on issues from time to time, but that is the sign of a mature relationship and the sign of a steady relationship. He called for more efforts to reduce civilian casualties and sought judicial independence for the population. Mr. Hamid Karzai is on a four-day visit to United States and is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama tonight. He is leading a high-level delegation for talks encompassing security, development and governance.
