Reversing economic slowdown a priority: PM at NDC meet

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that government's first priority is to reverse economic slowdown. Addressing the 57th meeting of National Development Council in New Delhi today, Dr. Singh said current economic situation is difficult in view of global economic crisis. The Prime Minister called for stepping up investment in infrastructure saying better infrastructure is the best guarantee for the rapid economic growth. He said, the Planning Commission has set the growth target of eight percent for the 12th Plan. Dr. Singh sought the cooperation of all States for the inclusive growth of the country.
On security of women, Dr. Singh asked the States to ensure safety of women and address the growing threats to them. He said, no development can take place without women's participation.
