Retail price of urea to be raised by 10 per cent

The government has decided to raise the retail price of urea by 10 per cent and allow manufacturers to fix the rates of DAP and Potash fertilisers. The rate of urea has been raised from 4,830 rupees per metric tonne, to 5,310 rupees a metric tonne. The decisions are part of the new nutrient-based subsidy scheme, approved by the Cabinet. It will be effective from the 1st of April this year. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni said the government will continue to fix the MRP of the widely used fertiliser, urea.<br/><br/> In yet another decision, the Cabinet approved a budget of 182 crore rupees for the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam, after designating it as the Telecom Service Provider for the Commonwealth Games. Giving details, Ms Soni said with the budgetary support, the MTNL will establish an exclusive and dedicated telecommunication network to be obtained on Wet Lease inclusive of supply, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance and providing professional services.<br/><br/> The Cabinet also gave a nod to a Mission Mode Project for computerisation of commercial taxes for state governments. The project will incur a cost of over 1100 crore rupees and will help states develop and upgrade the IT systems in their commercial taxes administration.
