Retail inflation rises to 4.41 per cent in September this year, due to costlier food items in general, and pulses and beverages in particular. Consumer Price Index based inflation had stood at 3.74 percent in August this year. Food inflation rose to 3.88 per cent in September, from 2.2 per cent in August. Retail inflation in the pulses and products category jumped to 29.76 per cent in September, while inflation in the food and beverages category almost doubled, to 4.29 percent, compared to a month earlier. Retail inflation rose to 5.05 per cent for the rural sector and 3.61 for the urban sector in September.
