Retail inflation moved up to 7.96 per cent in July this year, from 7.46 per cent in June, due to higher prices of food items like vegetables, fruits, and milk. Retail inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index had stood at 9.64 per cent in July last year. Food inflation rose to 9.36 per cent in July, from 7.97 per cent in June, according to government data released today. The rate of price rise in vegetables was 16.88 per cent, and in fruits it was 22.48 percent in July. Inflation in pulses was 5.85 per cent, and in milk and milk products 11.26 percent during the month. But inflation in cereals eased marginally to 7.45 per cent in July, from 7.6 per cent in June. Inflation in rural and urban areas was 8.45 per cent in July and in urban areas it was 7.42 per cent.
