Retail inflation falls marginally to 7.8 % in August

Consumer Price Index based inflation, or retail inflation fell marginally to 7.8 per cent in August this year, from 7.96 per cent in July. Retail inflation had stood at 9.52 per cent in August last year. However, food inflation rose to 9.42 per cent in August, from 9.36 per cent in July, an official release said. The rate of price rise in vegetables was 15.15 percent in August, while inflation in fruits was 24.27 per cent during the month. Inflation in milk and milk products was 11.7 per cent in August. Inflation in rural areas was 8.35 percent, and in urban areas it was 7.04 per cent in August.
