Retail inflation has fell to 5(point)07 per cent in January this year due to easing prices of vegetables, fruits and fuel components. According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the inflation, based on Consumer Price Index (CPI), was at 5.21 per cent in December. It was at lower level at 3.17 per cent in January last year. The base year for the calculation of CPI is 2012. In the IIP data output, the ministry has said that Industrial production expanded 7.1 per cent in December last year, compared to 2.4 per cent a year ago. The Industrial production grew 3.7 per cent in April-December last year, down from 5.1 per cent in the corresponding period a year ago. The base for IIP calculation is 2011-12.
