Retail inflation declined marginally to 10.02 per cent in June mainly due to lower prices of sugar and non-alcoholic beverages. Retail inflation, based on Consumer Price Index was at 10.36 per cent in May. Minister of State (Independent charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Kumar Jena said that decline in retail inflation for urban areas in June 2012 as compared to May 2012 is attributed to higher base of the Housing Group index. He said that certain food items like vegetables turned costlier, followed by edible oils and milk products in June on annual basis.
