Retail inflation rose to an eight-month high of 5.4 per cent in June this year, from 5.01 per cent in May. Retail inflation measured in terms of the Consumer Price Index had stood at 6.77 per cent in June last year. According to official data, overall retail food inflation increased to 5.48 per cent in June this year, from 4.8 per cent in May. Inflation in pulses stood at 22.24 per cent in June, in milk and its products at 7.18 percent, and in protein-rich items such as meat, at 6.99 per cent. But prices of sugar and confectionery items fell by 8.55 per cent in June.
