Jharkhand health officials on Wednesday categorically rejected the claims of local media that small pox has resurfaced in the state. State Government had rushed doctors to Gumla district to verify reports that small pox – a contagious disease believed to have been eradicated from the world – had resurfaced and killed three people there. However, Jharkhand health secretary A.K. Sarkar told reporters that initial investigation revealed that it was a case of chicken pox and no evidence or symptoms of smallpox were found.
