Restoration of peace and speedy economic development will be high on the agenda of the new West Bengal government. Talking to reporters after being sworn-in as the Chief Minister yesterday, Ms. Mamta Benerjee said that the administration has been asked to work on top priority to recover illegal arms. She said the state cabinet has also decided to set up a review committee for the release of political prisoners. The Chief Minister also advocated for resolving the ongoing problems in Darjeeling Hill and Jungle Mahal. Announcing a special development package for the region, she said her government is ready to talk to any group who are agitating now. Ms. Banerjee announced government's decision to return 400 acres of land to farmers at Singur who unwillingly parted with their land for the Nano project. She said government will welcome Tata group if they agree to set up car factory on the remaining 600 acres of land. The Chief Minister said that the state cabinet has also decided to set up a separate ministry for speedy implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employement Guarantee Scheme and effective distribution of BPL cards. The state Governor Mr. M.K. Narayanan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Ms. Mamata Banerjee and her 38 ministers including two from Congress yesterday.
