Responsibility for Dantewada lapse will be fixed: Chidambaram

The Home Minister has admitted Dantewada massacre was a failure of command and control and responsibility for the lapse will be fixed right up to his level. <br/> <br/>Replying the debate on the Dantewada massacre in the Rajya Sabha, Mr P Chidambaram ruled out use of Army and Air Force in the Naxal affected areas. <br/> <br/>He said government is contemplating to set up a special force to supplement the para military forces in Naxal operations. He said that aircrafts could be considered for surveillance, logistics and evacuation. Mr Chidambaram said that picture will be clear only once the E Rammohan committee report is out and action will be taken based on this report. The report is expected to come by 25th April. <br/> <br/>Urging state governments to work in tandom with Centre, he said the menace can be controlled in 2 to 3 years time if coordinated action is taken. Renewing his offer for dialogue to the Maoist if they leave violence, Mr Chidambaram asserted policy of establishing administrative control over Maoist infested areas remains the prime objective of the government. <br/> <br/>He also urged the states to carry out developmental activities in the areas wherever it is possible. The Home Minister thanked different sections of House for extending support to the government in this fight but regretted that the funds allotted for the development of these 34 districts are not fully utilized. <br/> <br/>In his clarifications from the members, he said that inter-party clashes in West Bengal are a cause of concern as mostly the tribal become the target. <br/> <br/>AIR Parliamentary correspondent reports participating in the debate on Thursday the opposition charged the government of being divided on tackling this grave issue. The two houses took up the debate on the issue on the opening day of the second half of the Budget session and Home Minister replied in the Lok Sabha the same evening. <br/>
