Maharashtra Governor K Shankaranarayanan has called upon universities to function in a very transparent way in order to ensure that research benefits reach the common man and end-users easily. Inaugurating the New Administrative Building of the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University [MAFSU] in Nagpur today, the Governor said that there is a need to ensure agricultural land is not diverted for other uses. Calling upon the scientists to reach out to the society, especially farmers, at the grass root levels, the Governor said that wiping out the ignorance of the farming community would go a long way in helping the rural economy to prosper. Highlighting the need for ensuring food security for human population as well as livestock and animal population, the Governor stressed upon the need for best efforts to revive and rejuvenate agriculture and allied sector in the State. Speaking on the problems in drought prone areas like Vidarbha, the Governor said there is a need to provide a boost to animal husbandry, dairy and fishery sectors as sources of additional income in the region. Assuring MAFSU of his full support for initiatives taken to create employment opportunities, the Governor also said that all steps will be taken to keep the administration of the University clean and transparent.
