Rescue ops on at snow-slide hit Leh-Nubra highway

In Jammu and Kashmir, massive rescue operations are on at Khardungla on the Leh-Nubra road, where 300 civilians, including women and children, were trapped in multiple snow slides in a stretch of 10 km. Police joined rescue operations on Friday night to make way for the stranded vehicles.One side of the road has been opened to the traffic and many people have been rescued. The rescued people were given medical assistance at South Pullu, 25 km from Leh.The snowslides struck at Khardungla on Friday, leaving 150 vehicles mostly, carrying tourists, including some foreigners, stranded.Meanwhile, all the stranded tourists and labourers at Khardongla pass in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir have been safely rescued. They were trapped in multiple snowslides in a stretch of 10 km.AIR correspondent reports the rescue operation of the stranded civilians lasted for six to seven hours.
