Rescue operations on for landslide victims in Sikkim

In Sikkim, rescue operations have began this morning for the flashflood and landslides victims in north districts. The north Sikkim remained cut off from rest of the state due to several landslides occurred on Mangan Chugnthang highway following incessant heavy rain in the area. The district administration so far has confirmed 16 deaths and other 5 are still missing.AIR correspondent reports, the incessant rain in north Sikkim recorded 100 millimetre in last 24 hours has disrupted normal life in the area. The met department has issued a warning forecasting heavy rain in one or two places across the state in next 48 hours. Meanwhile, BRO personnel despite bad weather condition are working round the clock on war footing to clear the multiple blockades on the road making it accessible to rescue team. There are also fresh reports of landslides occurred in several places on Mangan Gangtok route in north district.
