Rescue operations intensify in rain affected Karnataka, AP & Maharashtra

As Army, Navy and Air force personnel intensified rescue operations in the rain battered Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, the death toll in the affected areas has risen to 191. Of them, 156 people lost their lives in Karnataka, 16 in Andhra Pradesh and 19 in Maharashtra.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that floods in the northern district are receding now but torrential rains have left behind a trail of deaths and devastation. The state administration estimates that the rain havoc created 132 deaths, killed 2847 livestock, destroyed one lakh three thousand houses and rendered one lakh 23 thousand people homeless.<br/><br/>The flood situation in Andhra Pradesh is improving even as hundreds of villages are still marooned by flood waters in Karnool, Mehboobnagar and Krishna districts. Massive rescue and restoration operation are underway.<br/><br/>Heavy rains in parts of Maharashtra during last three days have claimed 19 lives. Chief Secretary Johny Joseph said that thirteen people were killed in Ratnagiri, five in Solapur district and one in Sindhudurg district. Six villages in Sangli district of western Maharashtra have been cut off due to heavy rains over the past couple of days. Eight boats have been deployed for relief operations.<br/><br/>In Kerala, flash flood has affected normal life at 6 places in Kozhikode district. Landslides were also reported at many places in the district. In Goa, large parts of the state were lashed with heavy rains since five days. Heavy rain has affected normal life.<br/><br/>In Orissa, flood water is receding fast in Balasore and Bhadrak districts. But, Jalaka, Kansabansa, Sona and Budhabalanga rivers are still flowing above the danger level.<br/>
