The Government has said that rescue and relief operations are continuing in the flood affected areas in Odisha. An official release in Delhi said that 13 teams of National Disaster Response Force, NDRF, with 393 men and 78 boats are carrying out the operations. NDRF has rescued or evacuated 3,834 persons till date. Four MI-17 helicopters were deployed for air dropping of food packets and rescue operations. The government has air dropped more than 23,000 food packets for flood-affected people in 10 districts of Odisha where 542 relief camps have been set up to accommodate 1,73,000 people. The release said, so far 27 people lost their lives and three are missing in Jajpur, Bhadrak,Kendrapara, Baleswar, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Deogarh districts due to floods in the rivers Boodabalang, Suwarnrekha, Brahmani and Baitarani. The water level in the flood affected areas of Jajpur has receded by two feet, while in Kendrapada the water level is steady and in Bhadrak only 2 blocks are flooded. Flood situation in some parts of Odisha continues to be grim. As many as 12 blocks in Kendrapada, Jajpur and Bhadrak districts are still marooned by flood-water with thousands of flood-affected living without getting relief for the last seven days. A 6-member second Central team is arriving at Bhubaneswar on Wednesday to assess damage due to flood in the state. A 4-member Central team is already in Odisha to assess damage.
