Republican politicians in the American state of Arizona proposed legislation that would challenge the US Constitutional provision that grant automatic citizenship to every child born in the United States. They say the removal of the provision would make illegal immigration less attractive because it would deny the prize of citizenship to the children of women entering the US illegally to have their offsprings there. Last year, the State passed tough laws that would require police to check the immigration status of the suspects. This led to protests across the United States. Arizona has a border with Mexico.
