Reports on Maneka Gandhi's interview by Reuters 'completely incorrect': Ministry of WCD

Ministry of Women and Child Development has strongly refuted news report of Reuters which attributed certain comments to Union minister Maneka Gandhi on the impact of cuts in budgetary allocation.<br/><br/>The Ministry issued a clarification and said the interpretation of the interview and certain comments attributed to the minister in the report are completely incorrect.<br/><br/>In a statement, the Ministry said, it will take suitable action against the news agency.<br/><br/>The agency had reported that Union Minister Maneka Gandhi saying that ICDS programme to fight child malnutrition has been hit by budget cuts that make it difficult to pay wages of millions of health workers.<br/><br/>The Ministry said that Ms Gandhi had stated that the government has accepted the recommendations of the Finance Commission on increased devolution of funds to the States in the hope that the states will be able to commit necessary additional resources for meeting the objectives of the social sector schemes.<br/><br/>In the same understanding, the Group of Chief Ministers has made recommendations on the cost-sharing pattern for various social sector schemes so that the contribution of central and state share to all schemes could be suitably rationalised in view of the increased devolution.<br/><br/>The Minister said that the States are not committing their shares to some components of some schemes which has caused uncertainty.<br/><br/>This is particularly true for the component of wages for Anganwadi workers.<br/><br/>The Minister also stated that she is confident that a solution will be soon arrived at as the Finance Ministry is fully aware of the matter.
