Centre has dismissed reports published in a section of media as inaccurate that Gujarat Government's request for funds for Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Yojana (SAUNI) has been rejected by Central Water Commission (CWC). <br/><br/>The media reports said, External Assistance Directorate of CWC rejected the request for funds on technical grounds, questioning the feasibility of the project. The Water Resources Ministry today clarified that it had given its in-principle approval of SAUNI-II Project and coveyed it to the Department of Economic Affairs in Finance Ministry in October last year.<br/><br/>It said, CWC had made certain observations on the Preliminary Project Report of Gujarat Government. The State Government has since submitted a detailed compliance report and the Water Resources Ministry has recommended the project to the Department of Economic Affairs for obtaining external assistance.
