Bangladesh State Foreign Minister Shahriar Alam has termed the recent report by a news magazine about China setting up a missile maintenance centre in Bangladesh as completely false and misleading. Shahriar Alam told media on Monday that regular maintenance is required when any equipment is purchased from a foreign country but beyond that, there is no plan to build a permanent facility in Bangladesh. He said that no such facility existed in the past as well. He said the government will also write to NIKKEI in this connection.
''
''NIKKEI Asia had reported that China is preparing to set up a maintenance facility in Bangladesh for the surface to air missiles supplied to it in 2011. The news magazine reported that the facility is part of a 'raft of Chinese military-related investment and supplies' to Bangladesh that includes warships, naval guns, anti-ship missiles, and surface-to-air missiles.
''
''Earlier, on Sunday, China's Ambassador to Dhaka Li Jiming had also denied knowledge about any such facility being established or planned for Bangladesh. He had said that China will not build any military base in Bangladesh or any other foreign land.
