<span style="color: #222222;">Renowned filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passed away this morning at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. She was 64. Lajmi was suffering from a chronic kidney disease and liver failure. Her brother, Dev Lajmi said that she was on dialysis. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The last rites are likely to be conducted today.  Lajmi, a director, producer and screenwriter, was known for working on real subjects. She was known for her women-oriented films like "Rudaali", "Daman", "Darmiyaan". </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Lajmi's last movie as a director was "Chingaari" in 2006, based on a novel "The Prostitute and the Postman" by Bhupen Hazarika, who was her partner. In his condolence message to her family and friends on Twitter, Mr Kovind lauded Lajmi for her rare sensitivity in depicting strong and resilient women on screen. In a tweet,  the Minister said, she brought about a paradigm shift in Indian cinema through masterpieces like Daman, Rudaali and Darmiyaan. Col Rathore expressed his condolences to her friends and family in this difficult time.</span><br />''
