The Minister of State for Defence Mr Pallam Raju said, renewable energy sources have the potential to provide an alternate solution to the growing energy demands in India. He said, international treaty in future may restrict use of fossil fuels, thus putting a cap on country's growth and development. Speaking at a seminar in New Delhi, Mr Raju called for development of technologies to generate clean energy in a cost effective manner. He said, the ability to bridge the demand gap through renewable energy may prove critical to country's prosperity in coming years. He said, Defence forces being one of the major consumers of energy, should take a lead in preservation of environment by promoting use of renewable energy mainly the solar power. Mr Raju said, in keeping with the world trends, India should not lag behind in tapping the clean energy sources.
