Remove all BCCI office bearers from their posts: Lodha panel to SC

The Supreme Court-appointed Justice R M Lodha committee has recommended to the apex court that all BCCI office bearers be removed from their posts. It referred to recommendations, approved by the court, on criteria for holding posts in BCCI and state cricket bodies and said that they include that a person should be an Indian citizen and below 70 years of age.

The committee further suggested that former home secretary GK Pillai be appointed as observer in the administrative works including award of contracts, transparency norms and holding of future domestic, international and IPL matches.

The report submitted today to the Supreme Court suggested these radical changes in light of the BCCI's reluctance in implementing the Lodha panel reforms which are aimed at cleansing the sport in the country and making things streamlined.

However, over the months, BCCI has remained defiant in its approach that all the reforms suggested cannot be implemented into with one State, one vote and age and tenure reforms the biggest reasons for contention. The committee was put in place by the Supreme Court after the IPL betting scandal brought the game into disrepute.

The apex court had last month given BCCI and 13 state associations till December 3 to implement the reforms proposed by the Lodha panel and had stopped disbursal of funds until compliance.
