Remembering Bapu: J&K launches scheme for weaker sections

The Jammu & Kashmir Government has decided to launch two schemes for economically weaker and downtrodden sections of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Minority Girl Students on Gandhi Jayanti day. Decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by J&K Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Syed. Under the incentive for Girl Child scheme, over 5,000 girl students would be covered. They will get Rs 3,000 each deposited in fixed deposit in the bank, for which zero balance accounts have already been opened. The students can en-cash this amount after successful completion of secondary education.Under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship scheme, the girl candidates whose parental income is less than three lakhs per annum would be covered. These girl candidates have to appear in the National Talent Search Test to be conducted by Board of School Education and the girls who qualify the test, would be sanctioned a scholarship of Rs. 3000/- per girl child.The aim of the schemes is to make education available to the underprivileged sections of society so that over all progress of the state becomes a real dream towards up gradation of education in a holistic way.
