Religion driven radical groups pose danger to security, law & order: HM

The Home Minister P Chidambaram says any religion driven radical groups pose a danger to law and order and security. In an interview to a national daily, while referring to his earlier reported statement about saffron terror, he pointed out that his view was not taken in the right perspective. He made it clear that radicalization can be by any religion, be it Islam, Hinduism, Christianity or Judaism. Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, he said the mandate of the interlocutors is to find a political solution to present crisis. He expressed hope that they will be able to guide the Centre in this direction. On New Delhi's cooperation with Washington to deal with terrorism, Mr. Chidambaram said there is exchange of intelligence relating to terrorism. He said India has such cooperation not only from the US but at least a dozen other countries. Talking about recent disclosures by the Pakistani-born American David Headley that he told the National Investigation Agency that ISI was involved in the Mumbai terror attacks, Mr. Chidambaram said that there is nothing new and New Delhi is aware of it. The Home Minister spoke on wide ranging subjects including Telangana issue, developments in the North East, recent political developments in Karnataka, rise in fundamentalism in Kerala and controversies around the Commonwealth Games projects.
