In Tamil Nadu, relief measures continues to be undertaken in a war footing as rain has subsided in many regions. District administrations are still finding it difficult in drain out waters that entered residential areas of Chennai suburbs and Tirunelveli. The state has been ravaged by destruction due to heavy rain as North east monsoon has been vigorous. <br/><br/>More than 17 lakh 64 thousand persons were rescued and evacuated and 27 lakh persons were treated in special medical camps in rain hit places. The death toll in the rain is more than 347 as per official figures. <br/><br/>The rains have subsided except for southern coastal regions including Kanniya Kumari. However people are still suffering from the travails of rain fury. The state government has disbursed Rs 67.47 crore as compensation till now to one lakh affected families. <br/><br/>Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa ordered to hold special camps on next Monday in 34 schools in Kanchipuram, 29 in Tiruvallur, 15 in Cuddalore and 54 schools in Chennai for giving duplicate copy of certificates to students who lost it in the rain. <br/><br/>Paddy fields have been submerged in Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Tirunelveli affecting farmers badly. Sea is rough with stormy winds forcing fishermen in Nagai and Ramanathapuram avoid venturing out into the sea. Students are affected as schools and colleges were closed in Chennai Kanchipuram and Nagapattinam due to rain. <br/><br/>People find it difficult to come in terms with ravages of nature without electricity, milk, drinking water and means of communication. Flood alerts continue to be issued in many places in Tirupur, Karur, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts as excess water is released from overflowing dams.
